The Future of Agriculture
Growing Tomorrow’s Leaders: The Importance of Agriculture, 4-H, and FFA
At Old Mill Country Store, we believe the future of agriculture isn’t just in the fields or barns, it’s in the hands of the next generation. Every day, we see the passion, determination, and work ethic of local youth involved in 4-H and FFA, and it gives us hope for where agriculture is headed.
These programs aren’t just extracurriculars. They’re leadership incubators, life-skills classrooms, and character-building experiences that help shape the young men and women who will feed, clothe, and lead the world tomorrow.
Agriculture Is the Foundation of Our CommunitiesAgriculture sustains us. It provides the food on our tables, the fiber for our clothes, and the backbone of our local economy. But more than that, agriculture builds a sense of purpose and connection.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose sight of where our food comes from and who makes it possible. That’s why supporting agricultural education is so critical. Programs like 4-H and FFA ensure that future generations stay connected to the land, to livestock, and to the values of hard work, responsibility, and stewardship.
4-H and FFA: Where Leaders Are MadeBoth 4-H and FFA give young people opportunities to lead, learn, and grow through hands-on experience.
Whether it’s raising an animal, managing a crop project, or competing in leadership and public-speaking events, these students gain far more than ribbons or trophies. They learn:
- Accountability — You can’t skip chores when animals depend on you.
- Leadership — From club meetings to community service, youth learn to guide others by example.
- Communication — They develop confidence to speak, advocate, and educate.
- Work Ethic — Early mornings, long days, and commitment build resilience.
These experiences translate directly into the kind of character and capability that every community and every industry needs.
The Future Depends on ThemThe agricultural world is changing. Technology, sustainability, and innovation are reshaping how we grow food and care for animals. To meet these challenges, we need leaders who understand both the heritage and the future of agriculture and that’s exactly who 4-H and FFA are raising.
When we invest in these young people, we’re not just supporting today’s youth programs we’re investing in tomorrow’s producers, veterinarians, ag teachers, scientists, and business owners.
Our Commitment at Old Mill Country Store
We’re proud to stand behind local 4-H clubs and FFA chapters across Central Washington. We are proud of each and every kid that we see work all year to protect and promote agriculture in their own way. Each year, we sponsor fairs, donate feed and supplies, and show up to support these incredible kids in the sale ring and beyond.
Because we know the lessons they’re learning today will shape the future of agriculture tomorrow.
A Call to the CommunityAs our local youth begin their projects anew to prepare for next year’s fairs and shows, we ask you to support them. You don’t have to be a farmer or rancher to make a difference. Attend a livestock sale. Sponsor a project or group. Shake a young exhibitor’s hand and tell them they’re doing a great job. Thank an Ag teacher, FFA advisor or 4-H leader who work hard to make all of this possible. Every bit of encouragement helps plant the seeds of confidence and leadership that will grow for years to come.
At Old Mill Country Store, we’re proud to say that supporting agriculture means supporting people, especially the young ones who are learning to do things the right way, the honest way, and the hard-working way.
Because the world will always need leaders, and the best ones are being built right now through 4-H and FFA.
